Are You An Emotional Eater?
I can’t believe how much I rely on food to satisfy my emotional cravings! A very close friend of ours passed away recently. He was an amazing guy and I really miss him.
After the memorial service, the church ladies had prepared a lovely luncheon and if you’re a church goer you know that nobody cooks or bakes like the church ladies! I bee-lined it right to the Nanaimo Bars adjacent to the Double Fudge Chocolate Brownies. I felt an instant calm as I savoured the first bite.
Not automatically reaching for “comfort food” is torture. I can’t just whip up a batch of my soft, gooey, chocolate chip cookies or my decadent Irish Cream fudge. Just eating a few of those warm cookies fresh out of the oven could melt away a day of stress or lighten my mood. I’ve found that choking down dry popcorn or eating low fat yogurt topped with ten little peanuts just doesn’t cut it!
According to the doctors at MayoClinic.com, “Emotional eating is eating as a way to suppress or soothe negative emotions, such as stress, anger, fear, boredom, sadness and loneliness.” They continue, “In fact, your emotions may become so tied to your eating habits that you automatically reach for a sweet treat whenever you’re angry or stressed without stopping to think about what you’re doing.”
My emotions must be cemented to my eating habits. Which in turn are cemented to my hips! So I need to adopt a few “calorie free” ways to face my stress and emotions. Anyone have any suggestions? I’d love to hear from you. See you next Tuesday!
This one’s for you RJ.

Love your website and of course your sense of humor. Your site is bookmarked! As a fellow emotional eater, I’ve made my resolution for 2010 to get this thing under control. So to kick-start 2010, I picked up a really good book called “Obesity Free Forever-Losing Weight from the Inside Out”. It is really helping me to change my life into a healthy lifestyle.

Ms. St. Petersburg here again…Recently I broke my wrist…Oh woe is me…Here comes the chocolate!
This is how I gained my 10lbs…Feeling sorry for myself. I can’t tell you how delicious every bite was…Now I’m ready to scream…As I said in a previous E-mail, skinny jeans are quite the fantasy. I know for certain chocolate and sweets sooth sad and happy feelings!
Now, I have to eat low fat yogurt with no sugar and if I haven’t cheated a piece of fruit! Not quite as good as the chocolate but it’s not like glue to the hips…We’ll see how good I do this week..
Good luck girls…Chocolate is the 2ND best thing in life…We know what the 1ST one is!

Hi Cindy, I ate half a box of chocolate covered cherries in December when my mom was in the hospital! Half a box! I think chocolate was 1st that month…

Hi Kathryn, I can relate…I did it again last night!!! Low fat yogurt…Of course I could not stop at one bowl…Feeling sorry again for myself I ate another bowl and then pulled the covers over my head!!
On my way to the gym to pay for the nasty deed! Oh, it tasted sooooo good!
Happy chocolate!
Love You Always,

Cindy, you are too funny! Better two bowls of yogurt than two bowls of Haagen-Dazs but wouldn’t you just die for some!!!
